This interesting design implements a 63 speed gear box using 6 selectors giving in effect a 2's complement 6 binary digit number. Hence the gearbox implements all gear ratios from -32: 1 to 31: 1. You could use it for a spirograph where you want to set the turntable rotation speed relative to the drawing arm.
