Product Background: The T100 was a special-purpose truck produced in the 1950s. At the time, it was the world's largest truck. Measuring 5 meters high, 5 meters wide, and 15 meters long, and weighing 50 tons, it was designed by the French manufacturer Berliet in the 1950s for transporting heavy equipment for Sahara oil exploration projects. The idea was to transport heavy, indivisible weights, avoiding the need to use multiple trucks to transport equipment such as generators and drilling rigs, and then reassemble them, thus reducing operating costs. Therefore, the truck was designed to handle 100 tons of material, and conceptual choices were made regarding tires, transmission, braking systems, and other features. Two Berliet T100 600ch trucks were used; the Cummins 24L V12 engine was later modified to a 700ch with larger tires (Ø2.2m). The T100 operated in Hassi-Messaoud, Algeria, and returned to France in 1981 for restoration and was exhibited at the Berliet Conservatory. Its ability to traverse sand dunes enabled it to participate in the firefighting efforts at the Gassi-Toui oil well in 1961-62. One model (red) remains in Algeria. One of these, equipped with a Marel dump truck, operated in a French uranium mine.
